No New Years Resolution

We are less than 1 month away from the new year (and new decade!), and with that comes New Years Resolutions.

Whether its losing weight, getting in shape, eating healthier, traveling more, starting a business, or anything else, we like to use January 1st as this magical starting point.

But, why?

Why wait for January 1st, when it’s early December and you already know what you want to do or be or accomplish??

January 1st is no more special than December 15th or 20th or 31st.

Don’t waste a month just to, maybe, feel that motivation on the 1st. Start now. Start your process today.

I know we are right in the middle of the holiday season and things get busy. Parties, and family events, and shopping and everything else can seem to get in the way.

But, really, how much time are we talking about? 4 days? 6 days? Where you can’t 100% focus on your goals. That’s fine. What about the other 15-20 days left in this month??

We are ALL busy.

But, no one is 24/7 busy. No one.

It can be a 20min window to get a workout in because you have fitness goals. Or an hour at night to work on your side business. We have the time. Even with EVERYTHING that is currently going on, we have the time.

Being too busy is an excuse. Waiting for the new year is bs.

Don’t waste the next couple weeks waiting for January 1st.

Start your resolution today.

It’s YOUR Social Media

A small part of my talk with Rob Riley was about social media/media consumption, and the importance keeping it as positive as possible.

1LIFE1YOU Podcast Episode 31 w/ Rob Riley

The news makes its money from getting views, and with that showing you all the bad or horrible things happening draws more views. Think about it… we all look at the cars that crashed on the roadside..

And that’s what the news knows. The negative draws. But, that can have an impact on how you go about your day and life.

Negativity leads to more negativity.

The same goes for social media. If your feed/timeline is full of negativity, complaining, arguing, that will seep into your own life.

But the coolest thing about social media is, YOU CONTROL IT.

If John is posting negative things on his own social media, and you’re tired of seeing it.. unfollow him. Boom! All lf his negative posts are gone.

And this goes for EVERYONE. Friends, family, coworkers, everyone.

It’s your platforms. You build and create what you see and not see. And if they have a problem, oh well.

Your own peace of mind is more important than their follower count.

Try it out. Go through whatever platform you are on, and unfollow or delete anyone that constantly post negative things, and watch how much better you’ll feel as you start scrolling through your own feed.

Social media isn’t bad. It’s only a platform. People are the ones who choose how to use it.

THE GOAL IS TO BE HEALTHY FOR LIFE

When I’m talking about health and fitness, I’m not speaking about trendy diets, get fit quick plans, or the bs you see on social media. (Unless it’s to say, don’t do those things!)

Listen to episode 28 of the #1LIFE1YOUPodcast

I am talking about being fit and healthy for life. A lot of us have 1, 2, 3 more lives to live. Those years are what I’m speaking on.

When being selfish is ok

A quick story from someone that DM’d me on Instagram.

You can listen to episode 27: being selfish is ok

It may sound messed up to some and some may not understand, but she was telling me about how she has been taking her own time back. And being more selfish with who or what she gives her time too.

The Pants That Fit

2 minute read

I got a message a couple days ago. And i ask the things I always ask, “How was the week? Good? Bad? Great?”

And, she says that she’s having a good week. Workouts going well. Food is getting better. And she goes on to tell me that she had a NON SCALE VICTORY that she didn’t plan on having so soon.

The goal, that she was hoping to accomplish in October, was to fit into these pants that she had that didn’t fit.

She said, talking to a friend about vacation coming up, and she wanted to go try on these pants…

And… THEY FIT!

Now, I think that’s awesome. But, it is a risk she took. It could have gone a couple ways.

1. They fit! The hard work she’s been doing is being seen.

2. They don’t fit…

A) Gets discouraged by the effort of the last 2 months

B) Motivates her to go harder

But, they fit! And that’s a really big win. The confidence it builds. The reassurance of the process. The knowing that the hard work is paying off.

You may not always see it. The scale may tell you something different on different days. But, how you feel. How does your clothes fit you. They are big markers on your progress.

Stop The Comparison Game

If you prefer to listen to the audio version, I talk about this on Episode 23 of the 1LIFE1YOU Podcast

Family. Friends. Coworkers. Celebrities. Strangers on the Internet. We live in this time where everything is accessible. Everything can be seen, read, and talked about anywhere in the world. And that’s really really cool.

But the gift and the curse (no jayz) is that, with all that accessibility to people’s lives and opinions, we tend to fall in the “Comparison Game”.

Looking at others. Comparing your faults to their perceived perfections. Comparing the timeline of someone else to where you are in life.

I see and hear it a lot. And, it’s not just about social media (though it plays a big part in this problem).

When something good happens to someone. Or someone is progressing in life faster than you. Or has more good things going on than you….

That’s all negative energy.

That’s all time you are wasting thinking about something you have NO control over. And you have to let that way of thinking go.

If it happens while you’re scrolling through social media, then close the app. Or unfollow the people that provoke those negative thoughts. You have the power.

If it happens in person, step away from that environment. Excuse yourself. Get away.

She gets it

Negative thoughts won’t just go away, but you have to start making yourself aware when it’s happening. Close the app. Unfollow the person. Walk away.

You can take it a step further and literally write down something positive about you. Right on the spot. Either with a pen and paper or in your note section on your phone.

It’s about realizing the trigger, but changing the reaction to it.

It happens to me. I’ll scroll Instagram and see this or that person in the same field as me doing amazing things, and I’ll start the Comparison Game. So, what I did was unfollowed everyone. And I’ll slowly rebuild it back to keep a positive energy for ME on MY timeline.

Comparing yourself to other is a nasty habit to have. You must know your trigger points and change the reactions to them. As soon as possible. Break the habit by building a new, positive one.

Life Lessons From THE BOYS

Let’s start with a little background for those that don’t know what THE BOYS are. It’s an Amazon Prime series, that is doing very well. Here’s a quick overview of the show:

It’s taking the classic superhero storyline and placed it in a real world setting.

Me and E just finished the series (in 5 days! Bingers Unite!). And in thinking about it and talking about the show and characters, I thought it’d be cool to take some lessons from the show and apply it to your life.

*Some are more serious than others*

1. Team work makes the dream work

The show is really about 2 teams. The Supes and The Boys. And when things are going best for either side, it’s usually when the respective teams are working together.

Do you have a team that helps you? That pushes you to achieve goals? To bounce ideas off? Maybe you should. Just look at the Spice Girls…

2. Let Things Go

Over and over in The Boy, characters are using anger, revenge, spite to drive them, and it never makes them satisfied or happy. Looking at you Butcher and Hughie!

You can’t let those negative emotions drive your life.

3. Fame & Money does not equal happiness

Looking at Starlight’s story, she got everything she wanted, or at least thought she wanted. And when she had it all, she was less happy than before.

Finding happiness outside of money or fame is a more fulfilling way to live your life.

4. What happens in the dark always comes to the light.

There was a long list of characters that had secrets, or hidden personas. Hughie lying, Butcher keeping secrets, Homelander not being the 100% good guy character, ATrain using drugs, to how the Supes formed to begin with.

You can’t hide things forever. Being honest, and truthful will lead to a less stressful life.

5. Cherish the moments

You never know when you will have that last time with someone. Or when something tragic could happen. Live in the moment. Spend your time with the people you like being around.

Even if that person was a lab created terrorist who can’t be killed….

*And a couple quick one:

6. Don’t have sex with strangers.

7. Don’t stand in the street to have a conversation

8. A loving family comes in many forms (Looking at that final scene lol)

Ok. I’m done. Hope you enjoyed!
